Southern Pacific #18 – August 2017

One last view inside the old “restoration facility”
All the tools are getting cleared out of the shed.
The signs say it all.
The Mt. Whitney fish hatchery 100th anniversary dinner had over 400 attendees!

With no roof the afternoon light makes for good pictures.

August 19-20 was our latest work weekend in Independence. Of significance was the removal of the tent and all tools from Dehy Park. After 6 years of hard work it was a little bitter sweet to officially move out. Even though it is vacant at the moment 2018 will bring a new display to the park. The weekend also let us take care of most all of our punch list of repairs and adjustments that were discovered over the July 3rd run. Remember we have only had #18 under steam twice so far and it will take a few more times to get some of the bugs worked out. In addition to repairs we also split the locomotive and tender in preparation for their move to Laws.

After the work we spent Saturday night with about 400 others at the 100th anniversary of the Mt. Whitney fish hatchery. It was a great time with Independence’s famous tri-tip for dinner.

And just a reminder that we are getting close to the September 23-24th Slim Princess reunion at Laws. There are 5 tickets remaining for the night photo shoot on the 22nd and day trip tickets are selling like hot cakes also! Here is a great little promo video from the guys at Laws museum. If you haven’t already be sure to get your tickets on our catalog page. See you soon!
